Sarena Parmar


Sarena grew up in Kelowna, British Columbia. After high school, Sarena was accepted into the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada. While still attending school, she booked her first professional job and made her Toronto debut in A Midsummer Night’s Dream produced by the Canadian Stage Company.

Sarena transitioned into TV, after landing the part of Chandra Mehta, Indie’s older sister, in the Gemini nominated series, How To Be Indie. Since then, Sarena has gone on to guest star on several Canadian dramas, including Degrassi: The Next Generation, Flashpoint and The Border.

Sarena is also an emerging playwright. Her plays have been workshopped by various theatre companies in Toronto and Vancouver. Sarena is currently based in Toronto, splitting her time between filming, acting on stage and playwriting.

Community Involvement

Proud of her South Asian heritage, Sarena is committed to raising awareness about women’s rights issues faced in developing countries and here in Canada. This year, Sarena became an Ambassador for Because I am a Girl, speaking out about girl’s rights. “Girls are the answer and so are you.” Learn more about the movement here:
